This fall, Richmond Pentecostal Church embarks on a profound journey through the book of Genesis, which is structured around the tension between blessings and curses and the genealogical framework of the "toledoth" (generations).
Titled Passing the Promise: A Generational Journey Through Genesis, this teaching series invites us to explore the foundational stories of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. As Genesis demonstrates, these are not just historical accounts but vibrant legacies illustrating God's "Family systems," His enduring covenant, and the powerful role each generation plays in carrying forward His purposes through the divine delivery vehicle of blessing. The ancestral accounts (Genesis 12-50) show how God's program of blessing is meant to overcome the curse of sin (Genesis 1-11).
In a world often fragmented by generational gaps, this series will highlight the biblical call to intergenerational unity, mutual honour, and the crucial act of "passing the baton" of faith and destiny. We will see how God works through individuals and families (both in their triumphs and their struggles) to build a lasting legacy.
Whether you are a seasoned believer reflecting on your legacy, or a young family shaping the future, Passing the Promise is a series that we hope will equip you to live with a generational mindset, participating in the life of a church where the wisdom of the old empowers the vibrancy of the young, and the energy of the young honours the foundations laid by the old.
Beginning on the Sunday of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation weekend, our series opens by acknowledging the need for healing and reconciliation in all relationships (whether within families, communities, or entire nations), laying a biblical foundation for confronting difficult pasts and moving towards a future of generational blessing.
